Features

Offers various options in a very reliable, well organized and intuitive app. The first time the robot cleans your home, it creates a map of the home and identifies each room with a separate color. You can save up to 4 maps / floors in the app. The Roborock S6 figures out which floor it is on when it starts cleaning.

You can pause the Roborock S6 anytime using the app, for example, if you need to take a phone call and later resume cleaning or send it back to the dock.

You will see the remaining battery status in the app and number of square meters/feet already covered.

It covers hardwood floors, tiles and carpets efficiently. It can elevate itself up to 2 cm in order to cross thresholds and does so without any problems.

Cleaning modes

4 different cleaning modes: Quiet, Balanced, Turbo and Max. The difference is the power of suction and noise. In the Quiet and Balanced modes, it is very tolerable. But in the Turbo and Max mode, the noise increases considerably.

Covers 250 square meters or 2500 square feet per charge.

The robot goes systematically across each room and you can see the robot’s position on the map in the app in real time. The app also shows the area covered. On average, it cleans roughly 1 square meter per minute. It returns back to the dock automatically after cleaning.

When cleaning and only 15% remains of the battery charge, the robot returns to the dock to recharge. When 80% of the battery has been charged, it continues cleaning the remaining area.

The Mop function

You can add a water tank to the lower rear side of the robot. Before adding the water tank to the robot, fill the tank with water and fix a damp mopping cloth to the tank (very intuitive and easy). Then you can adjust a knob on the tank to select between two levels of water release. Fixing the water tank is intuitive and easy.

Rooms to clean

When commanding the robot to clean your space, you have three options: Room, All or Zone.Room: You can select any room, several or all rooms and hit Clean. The robot then systematically cleans the selected rooms. You can choose the number of cycles the robot cleans the room(s). That feature is very practical. I usually let the robot clean the kitchen 3 times after the kids have been eating bread, leaving bread crumbs all over the floor.

All: Select all and hit Clean. The robot cleans all accessible rooms and spaces except no-go zones.

Zone: A resizable square appears on the map. You can drag it over the area that you would like cleaned by the robot, resize it until it represents the area you would like to clean and hit the clean button. The robot accurately cleans the floor inside the square. You can choose the number of cycles the robot cleans the zone.

Spot Clean

In addition to the above options, you will find a Side Menu in the app which allows you to select PIN&GO and other useful features. Let’s say the robot is in the dock and your kid drops dirt on the floor. You can then click Pin&Go, then select the area on the map that needs cleaning and hit Go. When the robot arrives to the area, you select Spot Clean and the robot will clean the spot and surrounding area.

Side Menu

Robot settings: You can change the name of the robot (mine is named Robocop), disable the indicator light, enable carpet boost for increased suction when cleaning carpets, edit the time zone, do not disturb mode and change the units (square meters/square feet etc.).

Map management: You can edit the map(s), split rooms/zones, merge zones and create no-go zones. This is a great feature. I have organized my living room into two zones, as a part of it is used more frequently and requires more frequent cleaning. If you have open spaces in your home, you may choose to divide them into specific cleaning areas.

Robot voice: When you instruct the robot to clean or return to the dock, it announces the given instruction. The volume can be adjusted or the voice disabled.

Schedules: You can create a schedule for your robot. Let’s say that you leave the house for work at 8:30 every morning, the robot can be scheduled to clean your home at 9. You can also create multiple schedules, if needed. This is one of the best features in my opinion.

Remote Control: You can control the robot from your phone, a feature that I don’t find very practical, since it is quite time consuming. But for some people, this may be useful.

Cleaning history: Displays a list of cleaning events, including total time spent cleaning, total area covered and total number of cycles.

Maintenance: Displays the remaining hours of use of the filter, side brush, main brush, sensors and water tank filter.

Firmware:

Since buying the robot the manufacturer Xiaomi has updated the firmware for the robot and the app and added some useful features.

Maintenance

Maintaining the robot is easy and intuitive. The App reminds you when you need to take action. Below you’ll find a complete list of maintenance tasks. By consistently completing those tasks you will maximize the performance and efficiency of your robot.

The robot has sensors that need cleaning every once in a while. Just take a damp cloth and wipe the sensors. It takes one or maximum two minutes. The app reminds you to wipe the sensors after 30 hours of cleaning.

The water tank has a filter. It is recommended to replace the filter after 100 hours of cleaning.

There is a HEPA dust filter attached to the dust container. It is recommended to replace the filter after 150 hours of cleaning.

The robot has a side brush that needs to be cleaned every now and then. It is easy to maintain and only takes a minute. It is recommended to replace the side brush after 200 hours of cleaning.

The main brush that collects dust and other particles from the floor needs to be cleaned every now and then. It is very easy to remove and install. It is recommended to replace the main brush after 300 hours of cleaning.

Conclusion

The Roborock S6 Robot Vacuum Cleaner is a great product and manufacturer Xiaomi has succeeded in streamlining the performance and user interface of both the Robot and the App. We would always buy Roborock S6 again as it has proven to be a great investment for its purpose.
